Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara served as witnesses Saturday at a same-sex marriage in Maine. The couple, Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen, owns a store in Kennebunk and have known the Bushes for years. When the Bushes accepted the invitation to the wedding, Clement and Thorgalsen then asked them to be witnesses. "This is such a wonderful time for change in our legal system," Clement said. "Who would be best to help us acknowledge the importance of our wedding as our friends and as the former leader of the free world."
