LITERARY BLAZE

Book Burning Fire Destroys at Least 10 Homes

Ten homes have been destroyed in Florida’s Nassau County after a man who was burning books accidentally caused a wildfire Wednesday. Emergency personnel have suffered minor injuries in the blaze, dubbed the Garfield Road Fire. So far, the flames have spread over 400 acres, and officials said it is now 65 percent contained. The man was burning paperback books, said Florida Forest Service spokeswoman Annaleasa Winter, but it is not clear what his motivation was. “It was an illegal burn,” she said. “It was paper. It got away from him.”
