    Boehner: I Won’t Allow Default

    Is the GOP cracking? House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday assured Republican colleagues that he will not allow the U.S. to default on its debt, and said he was willing to fund the government with a combination of Republican and Democratic votes. News of the comments, which appear to reveal a crack in the GOP’s thus-far unified front, came from an anonymous member of the House, while other Republicans said they got the sense that Boehner would do anything to avoid a default. Moderate Republicans who have been criticizing their party’s stance on the shutdown said they would vote with Democrats to pass a so-called clean resolution to fund the government.
