‘Birth Tourism’ Scheme in Cali Busted

On Tuesday, federal agents served search warrants to about 20 locations across southern California at sites suspected of running Chinese “birth tourism” schemes—plots aimed at providing women in China with fraudulent visas for travel to the U.S. so that their children will be born as American citizens. Pregnant women were allegedly being housed in apartment complexes, where they stayed for months until giving birth. They were charged tens of thousands of dollars for guidance through the scheme, according to affidavits.
