Bill Kristol Steps Down as Weekly Standard Editor

The Weekly Standard founder and editor Bill Kristol will step down from his role after 21 years, he announced Monday evening. He will be taking on a smaller role as editor-at-large while senior writer Stephen F. Hayes and editor Richard Starr take over the publication’s top editor job. Kristol endured a difficult election, during which he adamantly opposed Donald Trump—repeatedly and wrongly predicting his demise throughout the primary and general election seasons—and backed the short-lived non-campaign of conservative blogger David French.
