Bill Clinton: There Were Errors in NYT Piece

Former President Bill Clinton said on Friday that there were important errors in The New York Times piece on the Clinton Foundation’s finances—and the errors caused the right-wing media to (predictably) go into overdrive in their criticism of Hillary Clinton. On August 13th, Nicholas Confessore and Amy Chozick of the Times wrote that there is “unease” over finance and management issues at the recently renamed nonprofit, now called the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation. The Times report claimed that the Foundation had a $40 million deficit in 2007 and 2008, and an $8 million deficit in 2012, citing tax returns. Bill Clinton said in a letter that those numbers were inaccurate since they relied on unaudited numbers from the 2012 annual report, and audited financials will reveal a surplus. Additionally, Clinton said the Times failed to provide crucial context and facts.
