Beachgoers Find Giant Jellyfish

While walking along the beach in Tasmania, Josie Lim and her children found a 5-foot-wide jellyfish. Scientists, who without irony described the creature as a “truly magnificent animal," are working to classify this species of jellyfish, which is one of three new species of Lion’s Mane. In recent years, there has been an explosion of jellyfish in waters around Tasmania. The world’s largest jellyfish is the Cyanea Artica, which can get as big as 10 feet across the body.
