Australian PM Ousted by Own Party

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott was ousted late Monday after a party leadership squabble ended his reign just shy of two years. Malcolm Turnbull, a Liberal Party cabinet minister, defeated Abbott 54-44 in a party vote, and will become Australia's fourth PM since 2013. Turnbull is viewed as a moderate compared to the conservative Abbott, who reversed the country's policies on combating climate change and opposed same-sex marriage and looser immigration for refugees—issues that have majority support among Australians.
