Apple Cancels WikiLeaks App

Sorry, WikiLeaks fans—guess there’s not an app for that anymore. Apple has now joined the expanding list of U.S. companies that have shunned Julian Assange’s controversial site. In a public statement Wednesday, Apple said the WikiLeaks application "violated our developer guidelines. Apps must comply with all local laws and may not put an individual or targeted group in harm's way." Meanwhile, Google has gone in the opposite direction, opting to keep WikiLeaks applications available for purchase on Android Marketplace. Depending on the device, Google's apps can give the user direct access to the WikiLeaks cables, and alert users of new leaks. Suspicions run high that Apple could be a future WikiLeaks target.
