Anti-Corruption Protests Roil Brazil

Upwards of a million protesters called for Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment Sunday, decrying her role in a bribery scandal involving the state oil firm Petrobras. Demonstrations gripped much of the country, taking place across 22 Brazilian states over allegations that politicians took bribes in a payoff racket channeled through Petrobras. The elaborate scheme took place while Rousseff was at the helm of the company’s board of directors. Rousseff has been exonerated in an investigation by the attorney general into the scheme, but her critics argue she must have known about the kickbacks.
