Anish Kapoor Unveils Orbit Tower Design

London is setting out to prove it’s ready to go big or go home for the 2012 Olympic Games and sculptor Anish Kapoor is helping relay that message with his recently revealed design for the Orbit tower, which will be the largest piece of public art in the U.K. when it’s finally complete. The ArcelorMittal Orbit, a nearly 380-foot steel spiral sculpture of the Olympic rings, is reminiscent of a melted roller coaster or, as one online critic said, intestines. Though it’s been compared with the Eiffel Tower, a notion many Brits reject, The Guardian recognizes that perhaps with time, like with the Parisian structure, one could come to love what is now being criticized as a bit of an eyesore.
