Andy Rooney, longtime commentator on CBS' 60 Minutes, has died at the age of 92. Rooney announced on Oct. 2 that he would no longer appear regularly on the CBS show, where he had been an installment for over 30 years. CBS said he died Friday night in New York from complications from a recent surgery. He was known for the wry essays and curmudgeonly musings he delivered from behind his desk at the close of each broadcast. He won three Emmy Awards, including one for his story revealing there was no Mrs. Smith who made Mrs. Smith Pies. Before he became a 60 Minutes commentator, he spent another 30 years as a writer and producer at CBS.
