Ambassador Rescued in Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo still refuses to step down to the man who was democratically elected to succeed him: Despite predictions that he would fall on Wednesday, Gbagbo remains holed up in his presidential compound in Abidjan. The latest development had French forces rescuing the Japanese ambassador, whose residence was being used as a vantage point for Gbagbo’s gunmen. After exchanging fire, French forces rescued him by helicopter.
