Amazon Launches Music-Streaming Service

Amazon launched a music-streaming service Wednesday, putting itself in direct competition with Spotify and Apple Music. The new service, dubbed Amazon Music Unlimited, will be available for $3.99 per month for those who own the voice-controlled Amazon Echo speaker. For those who wish to use the service through devices other than the Echo, it will cost $7.99 per month for Amazon Prime subscribers and $9.99 for non-subscribers. “The first phase of growth [in music streaming] was driven almost entirely by smartphones,” Amazon Music Vice President Steve Boom said. “We believe pretty strongly that the next phase of growth in streaming is going to come from the home.”
