Will Alec Baldwin’s next act after 30 Rock be one of political theater? A friend tells The Daily that the actor is considering running for mayor of New York, with Anthony Weiner’s Twitter scandal knocking the congressman out of his position as frontrunner in the 2013 race. “Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,’ ” the friend said. Indeed, Baldwin—a liberal Democrat—has flirted with politics before, saying in 1997 he might like to run for office one day and reprising those comments three years ago. What’s more, he’s said that his run on 30 Rock, on which he co-stars with Tina Fey, will end in 2012, clearing his calendar. But there might be less to the report than meets the eye: Baldwin’s friend is the only source for the story, the actor isn’t talking, and he’s been rumored for other implausible gigs in the past, too.
