Air India Express Plane Crash Kills 158

An Air India Express plane overshot the runway at Mangalore on Saturday, bursting into flames and killing 158 people. At least eight people survived the accident, including a seven-year-old girl who was seen being carried away from the crash site covered in foam; she was treated at the hospital for severe burns. The plane appeared to land smoothly at first, but after the overshoot, a small fire set off a larger explosion. The Associated Press notes that runway overshoots are common, as far as airplane accidents go; most end without injury or damage. It hasn't been a good month for air safety: On May 12, a plane crash in Libya killed 103 on board except for one survivor.
