Air Force Spilled 150K Gallons of Chemical-Laced Wastewater

The U.S. Air Force disclosed on Tuesday that it had spilled 150,000 gallons of wastewater laced with perflourinated chemicals into the Colorado Springs sewer system. While the cause of the discharge is unknown, it was reportedly discovered Oct. 12 during an inspection at Peterson Air Force Base. Because of the spill, “perflourinated chemicals [PFCs] at levels exceeding a federal health advisory limit have contaminated groundwater and public drinking water systems south of Colorado Springs,” according to the Denver Post. Air Force officials have conducted an initial investigation and ongoing inquiries will lead up to a full report next spring.
