Afghans Vote for New President

Afghans turned out on Saturday to elect a successor to President Hamid Karzai, even amid dozens of reports of rocket fire and gunshots. Afghans are choosing between former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and former finance minister Ashraf Ghani in a second round presidential run-off. The Taliban threatened to disrupt the vote and claimed responsibility for two rockets that fired into the Kabul airport (no one was injured). If the election goes otherwise smoothly, it will mark Afghanistan’s first democratic transfer of power.
