Afghani Bomber Hits Govt. Building

Amid violence in the rest of the region, a suicide bomber in Afghanistan exploded his truck on Friday in the government center of a provincial capital, killing three, wounding 90, and leaving the governor without an office. The man drove an explosives-laden truck into the heart of Wardak Province, about an hour from Kabul, and destroyed several government and security buildings, including the gubernatorial seat, and damaged the local prison. Although the area has long been contested with the Taliban, this was the first such attack on the region’s capital. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing.
