‘Affluenza’ Teen Threw Going-Away Party Before Fleeing

During a press conference Tuesday morning, Texas’s Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said that “affluenza” teen Ethan Couch and his mother had an alleged “going-away party” before fleeing to Mexico, where they were detained Monday evening. A massive manhunt had been underway for the pair after the younger Couch, who was convicted last year of intoxicated manslaughter, failed to appear for a probation hearing. They were apprehended in the Pacific beach resort town of Puerto Vallarta, nearly a thousand miles away from their hometown.
