‘A Quiet Place’ Wins Box Office With $50 Million Debut

Paramount Pictures’ horror film A Quiet Place defied expectations in its opening weekend, pulling in the second highest domestic opening of the year with an estimated $50 million. The thriller, John Krasinski’s directorial debut, easily claimed the top spot at the box office after bumping Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One down to second place. Ready Player One stayed strong in its second weekend, however, bringing in an estimated $25 million to earn a total domestic haul of $97 million. The R-rated comedy Blockers, starring John Cena, Leslie Mann, and Ike Barinholtz, opened to $21.4 million to take third place.
