A Death in Venice

Elmgreen & Dragset, an artist duo whose work marked the first joint venture of two national pavilions in the Biennale, were placed at the epicenter of buzz with their surreal work The Collectors. Located in the Danish and Nordic pavilions, their installation of modern homes—complete with a murder victim—made voyeurs out of every spectator. Paul Laster writes that positioning the domestic setting as the location for a murder was a winning idea on all fronts, and Biennale guests eagerly searched for clues to the mysterious death of Mr. B who was, rather eerily, face down in the house’s swimming pool.
