6-Time Gold-Winning Swimmer Severs Spine

Amy Van Dyken, the first female American athlete to win four gold medals in one Olympics game in 1996, got into an accident while driving her all-terrain vehicle in Arizona. Van Dyken, who is a six-time gold winner, severed her spine after dropping down a 5-to 7-foot embankment. She apparently told responding emergency workers that she couldn't move her toes or feel her legs. Her husband says she is "in good spirits."
