5 Amish Farmers Killed in Car Crash

Five Amish farmers were killed in a car crash in upstate in New York Tuesday night, and a 42-year-old man was charged Wednesday with five counts of criminally negligent homicide for causing the accident. Law-enforcement officials said the man, Steven Eldridge, tried to pass a farm tractor on a curve in a no-passing zone and sideswiped a van carrying 13 Amish farmers, sending the van across the road where it collided with the tractor. Ten people were injured in the crash. While Amish typically use a horse and buggy to get around, they are allowed to ride inside a car if someone from outside the sect is driving.
