400+ Protesters Arrested on Capitol Hill

Hundreds of protesters were arrested outside the U.S. Capitol on Monday after staging a sit-in to demand an end to corrupt practices of campaign finance, voting rights, and redistricting. More than 400 people were arrested for unlawful demonstration and will be charged with “crowding, obstructing, and incommoding,” according to U.S. Capitol Police. Members of the “Democracy Spring” campaign first began marching toward Washington on April 2 in Philadelphia. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee said rallies and events have been scheduled through the week with the aim of drawing “attention to our corrupt campaign-finance system and rigged voting laws.” According to Democracy Spring’s website, 3,500 people from 33 different states have pledged to join protests this week.
