Suprisingly—given legal segregation ended 60 years ago—schools are still extremely racially divided. According to 2009 data from a UCLA Civil Rights Project, the schools attended by 40 percent of black and Latino students are 90 percent black and Latino. While white students go to schools that are 77 percent white.
