31 Dead in Iraq Bombings

The violence that has beset Iraq the past few months continued Thursday when car bombs across Baghdad killed 31 people, according to officials. Attacks have been intensifying since a crackdown on a Sunni protest camp in April; Thursday’s violence targeted Shiite neighborhoods and government offices. The violence has raised fears that Iraq is sliding toward open civil war between the two groups, similar to what happened in 2006 and 2007.
