1972 Miami Dolphins Visit the White House

“Football is in the air!” the president exclaimed before introducing the 1972 Miami Dolphins to an excited crowd in the East Room of the White House. President Obama encouraged the crowd to “give it up” for the undefeated team, while also recognizing the “unorthodox” nature of celebrating a team’s Super Bowl victory four decades after the fact. Since the Dolphins hadn’t been to the White House in ’72, “I decided it was high time to pay tribute to the NFL’s only perfect team,” Obama reasoned.
