16 Killed in China Coal Mine Collapse

Sixteen workers were killed after a coal mine collapsed in China’s far western region of Xinjiang on Friday night while 33 workers were underground. Eleven were injured and six escaped. The cause of the accident is under investigation, though China’s mines have a reputation for being the deadliest in the world because of poor safety standards. 22 workers were killed in a simiar coal mining accident in June.
