At least 10 people were wounded early Sunday after gunfire broke out after a carnival street party in Manchester, England. Police are still working to determine a motive in the incident, which occurred just after 2 a.m. as crowds of people rejoicing in the street. Two children were among those wounded but were said to have suffered only minor, pellet-type injuries. Authorities said none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening. “This was a reckless act that could have had devastating consequences with families and friends losing loved ones,” Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry told reporters. Investigators are performing forensic work at the scene and interviewing witnesses to figure out who was behind the violence, Chaudhry said. The shooting comes just over a year after nearly two dozen people were killed in a terrorist bombing at an Ariana Grande concert.
